Help Us

Support an Orphan

Many of the orphans arrive in a pitiful condition suffering from dehydration and injuries. It takes medication and a lot of TLC to heal the physical and psychological abuse. Your monthly donation will ensure that our success in raising these little orphans continues.

  • R25 buys a feeding bottle
  • R50 will pay for his veterinary treatment
  • R100 will provide fresh fruit and milk formula

(Note: Conversion Averages: US $1 = R7 | UK £1 = R12 | Euro €1 = R9)

Project Sponsorship

Opportunities exist for individual and corporate donors to assist with special and capacity building projects.

C.A.R.E. has proven that hand reared troops can be successfully rehabilitated and reintroduced. They may not survive longer than other baboons, they may never rise to be top ranking leaders in other troops, but at least they will have had the opportunity to be baboons in their natural habitat.

We have mature troops ready to be released into suitable secure sites. We seek assistance to cover costs for the following items:

  • Relocation costs – transportation, tranquilisation, veterinary costs
  • Establishment of temporary camp on site
  • On site monitoring for 3 months

At present we have 700 baboons, of which over half are now ready to be released. We are always in need of suitable sites in secure conservancy areas to give them the best opportunity for a successful return to a wild environment. To achieve this release programme we seek urgent assistance for their relocation costs.

Due to numerous man-made influences 30 – 40 young orphaned baboons are presented to the centre annually – many animals arrive as tiny scraps only days old. The rehabilitation process is a long one – they can not be released until they are four years old, when they will have acquired the skills and strength to survive in the wild.

Our enclosures are constantly improved and upgraded to accommodate growing babies who require additional space.

Our needs for their construction include:

  • Diamond mesh fencing
  • Timber gumpoles
  • Thick jute rope
  • Strong chain
  • Padlocks
  • Cement

Alterations to existing outbuildings are required to form a new admittance and isolation facility.
